I have a Tiffin Phaeton The door most of the time works flawlessly. In the first case- I thought it was a fluke. My daughter climbed thru a unlocked window and handed the keys out and my husband unlocked all the locks and the door opened. Mind you. We tried everything. Including calling a locksmith who tried for an hour to get it to open.

As he had stepped away to call his boss for advise— we tried to open the door. Walked away. This time he was clever!! He had ALL the keys. The handle will move just fine. The door does not rub, its not hard when it works to open or close, and we are at a loss.

Tiffin Motorhomes has found that under certain circumstances these doors could open in transit. These specific doors could open because they are equipped with a door lock that was over-tightened at the time it was manufactured. The over tightening of the door lock can make it more difficult for the door to close securely. If the door is not securely closed, the door could open in transit.

If the entry door were to open in transit it would be possible for injury to occur to any passengers riding inside the motorhome and it could increase the possibility of a crash. Recall is published in "Roughing It Smoothly" magazine.

I have a 40 ft. Some are hard to get locked and one refuses to lock at all. I have that one wired shut so I can continue to travel. A call to Tiffin will tell you the brand and model of your locks and will likely give you sage advice on a fix. I just don't have the time right now to spend an hour or two waiting on the phone for a Tiffin representative. Hoped there was someone else out there who had already solved the problem and could share with me.

There are many Tiffin owners and likely other brand owners as well that have had problems with the compartment door latches Difficulties with latching issues usually come from door getting "warped" or twisted, being slammed shut, etc The "L" arm post holding door in can easily get out of adjustment Fortunately, I;ve been able to adjust very slightly that arm to correct the two times I had an issue last year If it's that some doors don't "lock"sure you are aware some doors do not have the remote lock capabilities What I have found is to send an email to the tech dept.

Since you are still on the move, the tech can send you a solution while you travel and you can hopefully resolve your problem when you are camped. One things I have found in my compartment doors is rust. Most of the pins and joints are behind panels and do not get lubed. I have opened all of my compartment doors and lubed them and on our doors I have replaced all of the latches that had the plastic pins with ones with aluminum pins.

On your door that will not latch take a look and see if your pin is either broken or not moving at all, if it is not moving try the ole stand by WD40 and lots of it. Then a good lubricant. Thanks for the suggestions. The problem is more precisely "latching," WhiteEagle.

You can run into a lot of strange problems when you own an RV. As a general rule, the more luxury items and technical devices you have, the more opportunities there are for things to break or fail.

Many RV owners have experienced trouble with dysfunctional door lock mechanisms. When they try to get into their RV, the door has mysteriously locked itself, and when they go to unlock it with the key, the door still will not open.

I had this experience recently when preparing for a trip, and luckily, I took the time to tear into the lock assembly and discover the real problem. The most common cause of an automatically locking door is a bent interior lever. The exterior handle moves a lever that locks and unlocks the door.

After heavy use, the lever can bend, causing the door to lock automatically. To fix this:. Continue reading for a more in-depth explanation of this process, as well as my experience with an automatically locking RV door. I pulled my RV in front of my house check that I had everything before embarking on a trip to Virginia with my family.

Everything seemed to be fine. But when my wife tried to open the door for a final walkthrough of the interior, the door was locked. I took out my key and unlocked the door, or so I thought. The door was still firmly locked.

Hardware, Locks, Handles, Props, Storage

I realized I had a problem. Frustrated and cursing my RV, I grabbed a ladder, opened the passenger window, and watched my wife make a very ungraceful entrance through the window. She unlocked the door from the inside, but I was still perplexed by the self-locking door. I spent the next fifteen minutes closing, locking, and unlocking the door. It worked fine. I let it be and went inside for a good night's sleep before leaving for our trip in the morning.

Halfway through our drive and after six hours of driving, we stopped for the night at a campground in South Carolina for one night. We got out, locked the door, and spent the next hour wandering around and talking to other campers—just relaxing and clearing our heads. When we went back to our RV, I inserted the key to unlock the door.
